Volcanic persistence becomes scientifically significant when activity is recorded across large spatial scales, long durations, or repeated geological intervals.

Regional Geological Context

Examples include the Siberian Traps in Siberia, Russia; Deccan Traps in Maharashtra, India; Karoo–Ferrar system across South Africa and Antarctica; Paraná–Etendeka across Brazil and Namibia; and North Atlantic volcanic systems across Iceland, Greenland, Scotland, Ireland, and the Faroe Islands.
